This is a good base of operations recipe, easy to work with and make the fashion you want. I added a tin can of red beans, some garlic powder, Adobo seasoning and a couple of dashes of cayenne. I also used brownish rice instead of white. Very easy and inexpensive! Thanks for sharing.

My mom makes something like this as well. She started out making it in college since the base is rice so it is very inexpensive and yous can make a lot to go on in the fridge for the week. Effort switching the veggies upwardly (carrots, celery, and corn taste corking in it!) and adding some shredded cheese (I utilise cheddar).

Nosotros really enjoyed this 1 skillet meal! It's a great versatile recipe! I only had ane/two a red bell pepper, and then I added chopped carrots and some frozen kernel corn to make up for information technology. I added spices similar cayenne pepper, oregano, & paprika for additional flavor. I as well substituted beef broth for the bouillon granules & water. I used i/2 cup of the beef broth to simmer with the browned beefiness & veggies while I cooked the rice separately in ane 1/2 cups of the beef broth, then added the rice to the skillet at the end and then that I didn't end up with overcooked rice. Information technology worked out well! We like to sprinkle some tobasco on top for an actress kick!

If you like a tiny flake of bite, substitute diced Andouille sausage for basis beef. It becomes a medium-mild and inexpensive "poor man's jambalaya," missing the obvious seasonings, blackened chicken and shrimp/crawdads, of course.

This is a keen recipe that my female parent used to make also. It was one of those family unit favorites and a staple in our dwelling. The but difference was that she didn't put in the bell peppers but did add some garlic. Also she sometimes added chopped tomatoes as well. Great recipe.
04/01/2010
Amazing! I added garlic + tomatoes.
01/18/2010
Not bad recipe!!! What a quick, easy and budget friendly dish! I didn't accept any greenish or cherry-red peppers then I used a can of drained zesty jalapeño diced tomatoes and added water to the liquid to measure just over ii cups and didn't add whatever common salt since my tomatoes were seasoned. I will make with peppers this summer when I can pick them fresh out of my garden. I am definitely adding this to my normal dinner rotation! Thanks Ann!

This was okay, but unexciting. Paula Dean's is much better. She uses bulk pork sausage and craven livers with parsley and celery. I recommend Paula's, it's much tastier. Mmmmm . . .

For all of those of the states who live in terror, wondering what to feed the adjacent wave of marauding hordes who come to lay waste product to the kitchen contents, this is a life-saving recipe. I make it in triple batches and freeze it for chocolate-brown bag lunches, quick snacks or on the become dinners. I add lots of things: Diced jalapenos, spinach, peas, corn, scrambled eggs, cilantro... whatever I have, need to use upward and which I intuitively make up one's mind will taste skillful. The point is I gotta feed the boys and I gotta exercise it on a upkeep and I gotta do it then they're well-nourished and, many times, have to take care of information technology themselves. This fits the bill in all those categories. If you're going to build up the book of the meal, be sure you adjust the seasonings, which is why I made note about the jalapenos and cilantro. I usually add more onions and some garlic and just a little burgoo, only considering of the salt content. Very tasty, very like shooting fish in a barrel, and freezes well.
01/14/2010
Filling comfort food, only added a bit of Worcester Sauce to spice it up a fleck.
04/21/2010
I made this recipe for the first fourth dimension tonight with excellent results. The changes I made were to use footing turkey chest instead of beefiness and I also added ketchup for a finishing bear upon that made information technology a very adept meal that volition keep me going throughout the week
01/30/2010
Made exactly as stated. I loved it, hubby said I can make it once more (high praise!). Very quick and easy.
04/20/2010
I think that your concept, and the way you presented your recipe is fool-proof! Well-nigh of us are pretty seasoned domicile cooks, and know that Whatsoever recipe tin be modified, so I won't bother insulting yous...because you already mentioned that iy can be changed upwardly. My family unit calls any recipe like this a "casserole". (Rice goulash, irish potato casserole, noodle goulash) Thank you for sharing!
07/18/2011
This was fairly quick and very very easy. Great flavor besides. I used onion powder and didn't accept whatever red pepper and merely a piffling frozen green pepper so I added a half tsp of cajun seasoning and a compression of cayenne instead of salt. I used ground round and didn't bleed the grease as at that place wasn't much and added the rice in and let it cook dry for a couple of minutes earlier adding the water. This was really expert and handy for a weeknight meal without much fuss.
01/21/2011
A new family FAV. I made it exactly as written and information technology turned out great. I recollect maybe I could fifty-fifty skip the uncooked rice and just add some leftover cooked rice when its handy. Loved how quickly this served up
04/20/2010
Exit out the greenish bellpeppers and use as a stuffing for bellpeppers ... yummy ... simply make ... stuff bellpeppers ... and bake with a little water/wine in the bottom of the pan ... add together grated cheese on elevation ... or peradventure footling pieces of salary ... serve with a substantial salad ...
03/25/2013
Fabricated this with Johnsonville Sausage and the family loved it.
01/18/2010
Really quick and skilful weekday repast! I added a scrap of garlic to the beefiness before cooking and took out the cherry-red bell pepper as I didn't have whatever on hand. The meat mix looked a little evidently so when I added in the rice I besides added in a can of corn (tuckered) and a cal of Rotelle tomatoes for a bit of a kick...It was fantastic with a fleck if ketchup on top! It fifty-fifty reheated well for tiffin the next twenty-four hours! This one is a keeper!!!
02/02/2011
Information technology was good but bland every bit it was. I will make it again but. Add a lot more spice.
03/17/2013
Really great meal....it is my go-to recipe when we are busy. I will sometimes add together Rotel tomatoes, mushrooms, extra rice, cilantro, and some cumin.
04/20/2010
This was a really nifty recipe. Equally suggested by the other reviews here which I took into consideration, this is a great lilliputian recipe to have on hand. I am sure that the leftovers (if you're fortunate to have any) volition be as tasty the side by side twenty-four hour period. One affair I did add together to it was Club Business firm "Cajun" seasoning to spice it upwards a bit. I also added virtually one TBS of Worchester Sauce to the meat and used Basamati rice instead of white rice. This is a keeper recipe for me. Thanks.
02/09/2010
This was a very like shooting fish in a barrel, tasty last infinitesimal meal to throw together. I didn't use the peppers as I didn't have any on hand. I added a can of Rotel at the advice of others, which added a dainty kick. The seasoning was very good. I added a little ketchup to my ii yr sometime'south plate and he gobbled it up. Will def brand over again. Thanks!
01/22/2010
My family actually enjoyed this. It was packed with flavour, and it was quick and easy. I volition definitely make this once more!

10/12/2011
Hallalujah! Somebody that knows how to make dingy rice from scratch without using a dirty rice mix!!! Thank you! I'd add Garlic Pulverization and Parsley flakes to this recipe to make it a v star dish, though.
03/01/2011
best rice dish, very piece of cake and soooo skillful!!
04/twenty/2010
I do something very similar, just I add some fresh herbs from my garden. Things similar Thyme, Parsley and Origanum together with a niggling garlic.
09/10/2011
Apply a little bit of sausage for extra flavor.
04/twenty/2010
This is a wonderful basic recipe! I did it pretty much exactly as stated, just added some Worcester sauce later and a bit of grated cheese and the homo loved it. :) I will definitely exist making this once more, and besides experiment with the ingredients.
eleven/25/2011

08/17/2014
Nosotros love this 1 for a quick repast on a decorated night. I also love that all of the ingredients are items that I go along on paw and it'south e.a.southward.y on the budget. I add a couple of chopped cloves of garlic when I'm browning the hamburger. I also utilize 2 cups of beef broth instead of the bullion and h2o. For some kick I add a little cayenne pepper and most a teaspoon of cajun seasoning. Tasty!
12/23/2010
Like shooting fish in a barrel! I arrive with light-green bell peppers, yellow onion, tomatoes and tomato plant sauce. After it is done I throw in fried potatoes. This all works even better with can cornedbeef
05/11/2010
Recently stock-still the rice dish for dinner, prepared it exactly as stated in recipe. Nosotros enjoyed it and we had enough for leftovers the next night. Think it was fifty-fifty amend the second night, spices had really had a risk to exercise their affair. I will use the recipe again, thanks for sharing!
07/12/2010
pretty good, a little bland every bit is merely throw a bit of extra hot sauce in there and a few other spices and its good to go. quick and very easy to make. yum!
08/17/2010
I idea this was pretty god. Instead of using salt, I just used the seasoning common salt in place of regular common salt. I served this as a fast and like shooting fish in a barrel main grade.
08/02/2011
This recipe is one my married man's favorite meals. Thanks for sharing information technology:)
04/twenty/2010
This is a great recipe, I was raised on a recipe similar to this one...Just in spanish we called information technology "aroz con carne", which is basis beef and rice. A few more spices, our spices, garlic powder, cumin, oregano, but enough salt and pepper to gustatory modality. instead of 2 c water, 1 can chicken broth, and enough h2o but to comprehend the rice.bring to a boil then simmer until rice is fluffy and tendeand is non soupy. serve with a side of refried beans, Delicious.
04/19/2012

12/xx/2010
love it!!
04/21/2010
I only rated this three stars out of kindness....where is the spice? and the salt level was too loftier. why no use low sodium beefiness goop instead? Next issue...where is the rut? this is a cajan recipe...no burn no sizzle, and lastly dirty rice is made with ground chicken livers, they give it a unique flavor. On the upside this makes a pretty good one pot ground beefiness recipe. Please change to low sodium granules or beef broth.
12/08/2010
perfect! thanks
12/30/2010
pretty tasty, much less salty than the boxed multifariousness!
01/03/2012
Pretty good. The only effect I had was information technology was slightly bland and similar another reviewer stated a little soupy. I used instant rice which requires i cup of water per 1 cup of rice but I followed the recipe for 2 cups of water. Will definitely make again calculation more than spices and with less h2o since information technology was a quick and overall expert meal.
08/22/2011
This was a great meal, it was quick to make and easy as well. Leftovers were good the side by side day.
11/10/2010
I really liked this. I added cajun spice and blackened red fish spice, and blackness beans. I would go far again for sure. My husband complained that it needed Ketchup lol....dork! It was fine!
04/20/2010
This was delicious but I have to say, I omitted the 1/2 tsp. of salt because I felt the bouillon and seasoning salt would be sufficient, and I'm glad I did - information technology would have been Fashion too salty if I'd added the common salt. Otherwise added my own things as others suggested - I just had 1/2 lb. of footing beefiness so I added pork sausage meat (took pork sausages out of their casing) to make i lb, so added chopped celery, carrot, dash of worcestershire - married man and girl loved it!
07/xix/2010
Excellent
08/17/2010
It was tasty and quick. I added some garlic powder.
01/24/2011
Totally love this. It is nigh similar a savory souffle.
04/twenty/2010
I've made this before I went vegetarian and information technology was a peachy base recipe. Y'all tin pretty much add anything you want to it. I plan on making a chicken version (replacing beefiness with chicken, and beefiness broth with chicken broth) of this this night for the family and vegan version for myself (just leaving out the chicken and using veggie broth and cream of celery soup).
04/28/2010
This was a quick and tasty all-in-one dish! I subbed dark-brown rice and it tasted great. Information technology produced several servings and I pared the dish with asparagus.
04/26/2010
Not bad, I added some Cajun spice, and some basil and crushed a clove of garlic.
04/24/2010
I made this using brown rice and substituted chicken for the beef, and it was great! My boyfriend actually liked it likewise, and it was very easy to make.
03/06/2012
This was super quick and easy to make. I have 3 extremely picky children and information technology is rare to cook something that they ALL three like. They all not only cleaned their plates but ii of them even requested seconds! My husband also gave it 5 stars. This is a new family favorite for sure!! Thank you Ann.
12/01/2011
This was a skillful uncomplicated meal and I needed to apply up a bunch of peppers. I used Yellowish pepper along with the green and ruby. I Only gave it four stars becuase I made it as written and I call up Information technology would take been much amend if I made the rice seperate and then added information technology to the cooked meat and peppers. I think it lost alot of its natural flavor and fabricated it too soupy to do it all in ane dish.
05/01/2012
used garlic salt instead of table salt, added some shredded monterey jack cheese on top, and mixed it upwardly. was awesome! 2yr one-time and 4 yr old approved...hubby loved information technology besides! thanks!
06/01/2010
Great, easy recipe! Slightly bland, could add something to spice information technology up a bit - but definitely expert!!
04/26/2010
My family unit idea this recipe was not bad, only thing I did differently was I substituted two large carrots (shredded) for the red pepper. I only used 1 teaspoon of better than bouillon and left out the rest of the salts and I used 2 cups of beef broth and 2 cups of rice.
11/17/2010

08/13/2010
I haven't had muddied rice since I was a kid. This didn't gustatory modality exactly how I call up it, just it was proficient. Even my picky Aussie boyfriend liked it. I'll make it for my sister next calendar week and see what she thinks. :-)
11/12/2013
I am leader of 4-H gourmet club in New Jersey and all the kids just loved it. The all-time part was it was gluten gratuitous and then anybody was able to swallow it. We followed the directions and it was a nice side dish with the gumbo.
06/01/2010
Good...tastes similar to the box mix. Used beef broth instead of bouillon and did non add any boosted table salt. Added a petty garlic pulverisation to liven it up a picayune.
05/26/2010
We loved this recipe! My only suggestion would be to add together more rice. I'1000 not big on meat and adding the rice can make leftovers for one of those busy days or lunch the next day.
04/twenty/2010
Absoluetly Delicous. My family and I enjoyed this and are looking forward to our side by side recipe from All Recipes. Fashion to go for our first time hither :))
07/14/2011
Very yummy. I used brown rice instead of white and had to add iii cups of water instead of one. I cooked the rice for 10 min before calculation to the meat. Then mixed with ground turkey and cooked for 30-35 min until rice was tender. I also used ane beef cube per each cup of water added. Substituted ground turkey for beef and added one chopped craven/bell pepper sausage link from Costco and a half loving cup of powdered parmesan to the ground turkey. My two year old daughter and family loved it!
05/03/2010
We loved this! The only change I made, was that I used garlic common salt instead of apparently table salt because we honey garlic. I used to make Zatarains's muddied rice all the time but I never will again! This is mode improve and home made! YUM!
04/20/2010
This is wonderful.
02/24/2010
Very tasty!
05/xi/2011
Very piece of cake recipe that is flexible (you tin can add your vegetables of choice) and tasty. A keeper.
05/27/2010
This was good. I used basis turkey and added corn instead of the red bong pepper. I too cooked the rice in chicken goop and omitted the salt. Overall the dish was a fast good repast.
04/twenty/2010
I have made a version of this for many years, but I add a tin can of whole tomatoes, chopped. My boys grew up loving it, too! 1 of our favorite dishes. I also used garlic powder, and express the salt because nosotros were trying not to swallow too much sodium. Many great means to fix this versatile dish!
04/28/2010
This was really tasty given that the only seasonings are salt and pepper! It's so very simple, incredibly like shooting fish in a barrel to make, and unbelievably expert. I call back the adjacent time I make it I volition experiment with some Cajun seasoning but otherwise, information technology'southward perfect the way information technology is.
x/21/2010
Skilful base of operations recipe. Made this using brown rice and homemade biscuits. I could have use a niggling more than seasoning, only it was still good. I could see myself adding some more veggies, like corn and adding more poly peptide similar shrimp and perhaps some yellowish rice.
04/21/2010
I love it. I substituted the footing beef for ground turkey... It was delicious!!!
07/11/2010
My husband and I didn't care for this recipe. I followed the recipe exactly, and we both thought that it was very bland. We added One-time Bay (after tasting it with just the ingredients that were called for) to make it a little more flavorful, but that didn't seem to help a lot. Nosotros won't be making this recipe again.
04/22/2010
Mmmm! This recipe is now added to our permanent menu! I don't know why I haven't made it earlier...easy and tasty. I've recently switched to grass fed beef, so I used less meat ( @ .7 lb) and added pinto beans, a little corn and a tin can of Rotel. We ate this for iii days (2 dinners, one lunch) and it was groovy at each meal.
05/28/2010
Very proficient. Next time I volition either add more rice or reduce the ground beefiness. Will besides add corn. But withal very good as written.
05/10/2010
Simple fast and easy, this recipe was perfect just the way information technology is written. Information technology is filling and tasty.
01/31/2010

04/22/2010
This was really practiced and really like shooting fish in a barrel to make. I dear the fact it is a ane pot dish. It could accept used simply a fleck more than kick. I might add together something for that next time. Will probably be making this once more presently.
05/07/2010
Enjoyed this! My kiddos liked it also!
04/21/2010
This recipe was a huge success at my house. The hubby loved it!! I made a few changes based on the reviews that I read: I added a some garlic to the hambuger, replaced the peppers with a can of rotel tomatos and a can of corn, and replaced the bouillon and h2o with two cups of beef broth. All in all, a very unproblematic recipe that makes a satisfying repast.
04/20/2010
Awesome! Husband had ii helpings, loved it. Cheers.
04/25/2010
Delicious! I used turkey instead of beef and added some chicken andouille sausage, corn and black beans.
08/02/2016
Very good basic recipe, we added cajun seasonings.
06/fourteen/2010
It was okay, but I felt something was missing. I'll probably try it once again with extra flavour.
12/13/2014
Family loved information technology. It was GREAT every bit leftovers! Volition be a staple in our house. And allergy friendly! Yay!
04/30/2010
The base was three-stars. I added a pound of sliced Cajun sausage and Tabasco and we enjoyed it as an entree.
04/21/2010
Delicious. Didn't have boullion, and so merely threw a agglomeration of spices in there and it was bully. Easy and quick
04/22/2010
Very Expert, I didn't take green or red peppers and then I used roasted ruby-red peppers and tomatoes w/ green chilies. I also added cumin and Italain seasonings. I also added some cheese. 04/21/2010
Loved this dish! Really easy to taylor to our specific desires. I didn't have green nor ruby pepper, so I but added some corn and green beans, let simmer a few moments, then added most i cup cheddar cheese on top. Winner! So skilful, the KIDS asked me to go far again!
07/08/2011
I requite this a five star my family unit loved this rice
04/24/2010
Super simple and very tasty. The peppers added flavour but didn't give information technology whatsoever kick (which is practiced--I usually can't consume peppers and didn't have problems at all with this dish). There was a prissy creaminess to it as well. Rather than bouillon granules, I used 3 cubes and crumbled them a scrap before adding. This is a fast, tasty recipe I'll make again!
